I try to be respectful when people are being respectful and have had some really interesting conversations with people. But when people are belligerent (or if they tell flat out lies) and it gets on my nerves I feel justified in putting them in their placeHausdorffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01690401058367596952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7110460687773644977.post-27268064308592498312013-06-04T14:59:28.134-04:002013-06-04T14:59:28.134-04:00Totally agree with you too. That's why I wrote in number 9 "When it comes to family/acquaintances/co-workers who believe in god but who keep their religion to themselves, for the most part, let them be. They're not bugging you with their beliefs and you shouldn't be bugging them with yours."

I'm totally in for mutual respect, since it is about the only respectable system to go by. Here I was trying to find rules that would still allow the antitheist to be the antitheist, but without becoming the stereotypical annoying "militant" atheist that gets such a bad wrap.

No rules could ever be perfect of course but I do appreciate the criticism since it keeps me on my toes. The Thinkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14303015383137218932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7110460687773644977.post-44342749716270000772013-06-04T14:49:34.682-04:002013-06-04T14:49:34.682-04:00I'm totally with you, and I don't think be...I'm totally with you, and I don't think being a dick is necessarily a bad thing. When people deserve it, being a dick is probably the best thing to do. If someone's minding their own business don't be a dick to them, if someone's a dick to you be a dick right back. Don't be a dick first. Seems like a good slogan to me :)Hausdorffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01690401058367596952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7110460687773644977.post-51583723225814563682013-06-04T14:39:56.485-04:002013-06-04T14:39:56.485-04:00That's what I thought you were referring to. W...That's what I thought you were referring to. Well, not all atheists are antitheists or what we would call "militant". So these rules are specifically for those kinds of atheists who are adamantly opposed to theism.

So how can one be adamantly opposed to theism, while following some basic etiquette? Well, if you encounter a "loud irrational fundamentalists theist" who is ridiculing your non-belief unprovoked, I'm not saying an atheist must ridicule them back, but he/she should not feel sorry if he/she does. And if an atheist chooses to do so, the theist gets what they deserve.

I think that's pretty fair, and within reasoned parameters.
